Pinehurst No. 10 is the first course in the new era of Pinehurst Resort. After the remodel of No. 4 by Gil Hanse, the resort remained quiet for a period, but after the golf boom post-Covid, they decided to finally pull the trigger on a project long discussed. The site is that of a long-abandoned golf course called The Pit as well as a large amount of previously untouched orchard land. Tom's course starts out on relatively flat, sandy-scrub ground that certainly evokes that classic Pinehurst feel. But once you hit the 6th hole, you quickly realize just how different the course is to every other at the resort. Some dramatic elevation changes, with heaving fairway contours await in the coming holes, as well as some of the boldest greens at the resort. With an abundance of short grass surrounding these greens, missing them provides ample opportunity for a wide range of greenside shots and recoveries (assuming you've missed in the correct spot). My contribution to this project pales in comparison to that of some other people, but I did spend 2 months on site with my main shaping contributions on the 12th and 13th holes (as well as the driving range). A large amount of my time was also dedicated to native areas, cleaning them up and making sure that they tie in properly with the surrounding landscape. Yet another fantastic opportunity and project to be a part of.
